Its abbreviation is the French phrase "Conformité Européene" which means “European Conformity”. Initially, it was "EC Mark" and it is officially replaced by "CE Marking" in 93/68/EEC Directive in 1993. In all EU official documents "CE Marking" is now used.

What is CE

CE is the one of the compulsory conformity for certain products that is sold within the area of European economic area (EEA) since 1985. The CE marking allows you to the market legally and to supply the required product in the European market by declaring that the products fulfill all the European regulation. Toys, machinery, electrical and electronic equipment etc are some of the products. The primary principles are the CE marking can be only given by the manufacturer or the authorized representative, CE marking indicates that the manufacturer takes responsibility for the conformity of the product.
